David T. Bates grew up on the Monterey Peninsula where his father was a physician. He graduated from Princeton University with an A.B. in history in 1968 and spent 3-1/2 years in the navy reaching the rank of Lt. USNR. David received his J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Stanford University in 1976 after which he spent ten years in investment banking in New York and San Francisco. (more)

David T. Bates grew up on the Monterey Peninsula where his father was a physician. In 1986, he joined Robert Talbott, Inc., became President and Director and remained with the company until 1998. David has served on the Board of Trustees of the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and the Community Hospital Foundation including one year as treasurer and four years as board chair. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of The Big Sur Land Trust and was treasurer of that board from 2002-2007. David has been involved with horses for competition and pleasure for many years and now applies his equestrian experience as he trains and handles the Program’s horses. He has two grown children and lives in the Jacks Peak area of Carmel.
